Is SMILE eye surgery right for you? If you are interested in SMILE but unsure whether it suits your eyes, candidacy is the place to begin. In this short video, Khanna Vision Institute explains the factors considered during an evaluation: prescription stability, whether your vision correction needs fall within the treatment range, and the findings of a comprehensive eye exam.

What is SMILE Pro?

SMILE Pro is Khanna Vision Institute’s flagship small-incision laser vision correction procedure. It uses the next-generation ZEISS VISUMAX 800 platform to correct eligible nearsightedness and astigmatism through a small incision, with no LASIK flap. On January 10, 2024, the U.S. FDA approved the ZEISS VISUMAX 800 with SMILE pro software for surgically treating nearsightedness, with or without astigmatism.

Am I a candidate for SMILE Pro?

You may be a candidate for SMILE Pro if your eyes meet current treatment criteria, and only an examination can confirm it. The video and our SMILE Pro page highlight several factors Dr. Rajesh Khanna evaluates:

  • Has your prescription been stable?
  • Is your nearsightedness, with or without astigmatism, within the treatment range?
  • Are your corneas healthy enough for the procedure?

Under current U.S. labeling, candidates are 22 or older. A glasses prescription alone does not show whether your cornea is suited to laser correction, which is why the exam matters.

What happens at a SMILE Pro consultation?

A SMILE Pro consultation combines detailed diagnostic testing with a conversation about your vision, lifestyle and goals. Dr. Khanna and his team review the findings with you and explain whether the procedure appears suitable. Results and recovery vary from person to person.

The SMILE and SMILE Pro consultation is free. If a fuller evaluation is needed, that is our VIP lifestyle exam, and your team will explain it before anything is booked.

Why choose Khanna Vision Institute?

Khanna Vision Institute has performed more than 25,000 vision procedures. Just as important, the team explains when SMILE Pro is not appropriate—or not appropriate yet—and discusses other options that may better fit the examination findings.

What if I live far away or worry about cost?

If you live outside the area, your first conversation can take place by video, followed by the in-person visits required for evaluation and treatment. We have two offices: 9100 Wilshire Blvd, Suite 265E, Beverly Hills, CA 90212, (310) 482-1240, and 31824 Village Center Rd, Suite F, Westlake Village, CA 91361, (805) 230-2126.

SMILE Pro financing is $150 per eye per month for 24 months. Regular SMILE, a separate procedure from SMILE Pro, is financed at $135 per eye per month for 24 months.

Frequently asked questions

Is the SMILE Pro consultation free?

Yes. Khanna Vision Institute offers free VIP consults for SMILE, SMILE Pro, LASIK, EVO ICL and PIE, and the first conversation can be a video consult.

Does a stable prescription matter for SMILE Pro?

Yes. A stable prescription is one of the common candidacy markers. Your exam checks this along with your eye health and the shape of your cornea.

What if I am not a candidate for SMILE Pro?

Not everyone is. If SMILE Pro is not right for you, or not yet, Dr. Khanna and the team can talk with you about other options that may suit your eyes.
