Turned Down for LASIK? PureSee Implant Options in LA

Being told you are not a good candidate for LASIK can be disappointing—but it does not necessarily mean you are out of options. In this short video, Dr. Rajesh Khanna of Khanna Vision Institute explains the Johnson & Johnson TECNIS PureSee presbyopic implant. For some people over 45, a presbyopic implant (PIE) may offer a lens-based alternative to LASIK.

What is the PureSee presbyopic implant?

PureSee is an extended depth of focus lens made by Johnson & Johnson. Dr. Khanna describes it as "a new kind of implant" with no rings. Instead, "they have curves along the back surface and those gentle curves like a wave" help bring light from different points to one point.

In March 2026, Johnson & Johnson announced "U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval of TECNIS PureSee IOL, an extended depth of focus (EDOF) intraocular lens (IOL) intended for use in cataract surgery." Dr. Khanna also uses it off-label for refractive lens exchange in selected patients who want to reduce their dependence on glasses.

What results has Dr. Khanna seen so far?

Dr. Khanna is describing outcomes among his own patients who were carefully selected as candidates. "You'll be happy to know all my patients so far who were candidates and we were programming them for distance, middle, and near can see 20/20 or better at distance and can read up close without any problem," he says. Since nearly all of them had both eyes done, he adds, "they are seeing like a 25-year-old."

These are his individual patients' results, not a promise. Results differ from person to person, and not everyone is a candidate, which is why the first step is a careful exam.

I was turned down for LASIK. Why talk to us?

Being turned down can feel discouraging. LASIK is only one of several approaches. Khanna Vision Institute has performed more than 25,000 vision procedures, and Dr. Khanna evaluates which option, if any, best fits your eyes and goals. If an implant is not right for you, he will tell you.

What does the process feel like?

Fear of eye surgery is common. Our team explains each step in plain language, from the consult to the procedure day and your follow-up visits, and you can ask every question before deciding anything.

What if I live far away or worry about cost?

Living outside Los Angeles does not have to be a barrier. Your first conversation can be a video consultation, and the process may require only a few in-person visits. Our offices are at 9100 Wilshire Blvd, Suite 265E, Beverly Hills, (310) 482-1240, and 31824 Village Center Rd, Suite F, Westlake Village, CA 91361, (805) 230-2126.

The PIE consultation is free, and we focus on small monthly payments through financing rather than one large bill.
