The Day After PureSee PIE Surgery: One Patient's Story

"So I went in for surgery yesterday." That is how one patient starts her video, recorded the day after her presbyopic implant (PIE) surgery with Dr. Rajesh Khanna at Khanna Vision Institute. She describes the experience in her own words: the worry beforehand, the reassurance she received and how quickly the procedure seemed to pass.

What did PIE surgery feel like for her?

For her, PIE surgery was painless, relaxed and quick. "The surgery was completely painless," she says. "I was totally relaxed." She was aware of what was going on, moved back and forth between a couple of rooms, and says "it went by in a flash."

This is one person's experience, not a guarantee of comfort, recovery or visual results.

Was she scared before surgery?

Yes, at first. She remembers being "very scared coming in for my appointment." What changed was her conversation with Dr. Khanna: "He reassured me that everything would go great." By surgery day, she says, "I had no fear." She already knew him, too. Dr. Khanna had cared for her family years before.

"If you guys are considering having your eyes done, I'd say do it. I went too long wearing glasses."

What is the PureSee lens?

The video was originally published as "PIE Surgery with the new PureSee IOL." PureSee is the TECNIS PureSee lens from Johnson & Johnson. In March 2026, Johnson & Johnson announced FDA approval of the TECNIS PureSee extended depth of focus (EDOF) intraocular lens for use in cataract surgery. Presbyopic implants such as PureSee are also used off-label for refractive lens content exchange, for people who want less dependence on glasses.

What should I ask about the first days after surgery?

Ask what the first few days and follow-up visits may involve for your specific eyes. Because this video was recorded one day after surgery, it focuses on how the procedure felt rather than on her final vision. Recovery varies, and the team will explain the expected timeline for you.

Why does she recommend Dr. Khanna?

She calls Dr. Khanna "a complete pro" and says she would recommend him highly. Khanna Vision Institute has performed more than 25,000 vision procedures. Dr. Khanna evaluates each patient individually and explains when a lens implant may—or may not—be appropriate.

What if I live far away or worry about cost?

If you live outside the area, your first conversation can take place by video, followed by the in-person visits required for evaluation and care. We have two offices: 9100 Wilshire Blvd, Suite 265E, Beverly Hills, CA 90212, (310) 482-1240, and 31824 Village Center Rd, Suite F, Westlake Village, CA 91361, (805) 230-2126.

The PIE consultation is free, and monthly financing options may be available. Looking back, she says it "was worth every penny."
