SMILE Pro for Orange County Patients | Christmas SMILE

Orange County covers 34 cities, from Anaheim and Fullerton in the north to San Clemente in the south. In December, a lot of OC families are on the same circuit: holiday lights at the Anaheim parks, shopping at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, a Ducks game at Honda Center. And at many of those family gatherings, someone mentions they are tired of glasses.

When parents want to help

Parents often call on behalf of an adult son or daughter. That instinct is kind, and the team welcomes questions. The decision itself, though, belongs to the adult whose eyes are being treated. The consult is a conversation with the patient: their history, their goals and their measurements. Parents are welcome to come along if the patient wants them there, and many young adults appreciate the support.

North County, South County, and the drive

Distance to the Beverly Hills office at 9100 Wilshire Blvd, Suite 265 East varies a lot. From Fullerton or Buena Park, the I-5 or the 91 to the 110 and surface streets is about 30 miles. From Mission Viejo or Rancho Santa Margarita, it is closer to 60 miles on the I-5 and I-405. Plan on 45 minutes to well over an hour. Parking is validated in the building. Many OC patients start with the virtual Free VIP consult to save a trip.

Theme parks, beaches and recovery

Orange County families spend weekends at Huntington Beach, Doheny State Beach and the parks. After SMILE Pro, swimming and the ocean wait about 2 to 3 weeks until your surgeon clears you. Dusty or windy outdoor days call for wraparound sunglasses. Roller coasters are not an eye risk in themselves, but follow your surgeon's activity guidance during early healing.

What SMILE Pro is

SMILE Pro uses the ZEISS VISUMAX 800 laser to create a small lenticule within the cornea that is removed through a small opening, with no LASIK flap. It treats eligible nearsightedness, with or without astigmatism, in adults 22 and older with a stable prescription. Rajesh Khanna, MD has more than 25 years of experience and 25,000+ procedures, and some patients will hear that LASIK, EVO ICL or no surgery is the better fit. Results vary from person to person. See the SMILE Pro page.

Students home from college

Many OC families have students at UC campuses, Cal State Fullerton or out-of-state schools who come home for winter break. Before booking anything, check two things: the student is at least 22, and the prescription has been stable. If either is uncertain, a consult can still be useful to set expectations, but treatment may need to wait.

Planning the visit day

OC patients usually schedule mid-morning visits to avoid both directions of rush hour, and they line up a driver for treatment day well ahead. If you are combining the trip with holiday shopping or a family visit in Los Angeles, the team can help you pick dates that work.

A gift between family members

Some families give a gift certificate toward SMILE Pro, in an amount they choose, as a Christmas present. It is a gift from family, not a promotion from Khanna Vision Institute. It works best paired with a Free VIP consult, in office and virtually, so the adult receiving it can make an informed choice.
