HELLO is a term short for Heated Extrusion of Lid Lipid increasing Outflow
The Hello Treatment combines two treatment practices that have been explored for nearly a century. In 1932, Dr. Knappp invented a roller designed to squeeze out accumulated secretions from the meibomian glands, but this method fell out of favor over the following decades. For the next 30 years, therapies focused on using Bebu shampoo for cleaning gained popularity. Recently, however, these two approaches have been effectively combined. The treatment begins with gently heating the eye, followed by a gradual extraction of the accumulated contents, providing patients with relief from dry eye symptoms and restoring healthy tear function.
The Science
As you may be aware, moisture in the eye is very important for comfort. Similar to how a mirror gives a better image when it is polished, our vision improves when the lids spread our natural tears across the cornea. The tears are mainly made-up of water, although oil is an important component. If there is no oil, the water in your eyes evaporates quickly. As you might have observed, oil can form a slick layer over water, allowing the water to last longer. The natural oil in your eyes is produced by meibomian glands. There are around 40 meibomian glands in the upper lid, and 25 in the lower lid. In hot, dry, or dusty areas, these glands can be clogged easily. Those exposed to pollution, Heat or those who wear certain makeup often, are also at high risk of developing clogged meibomian glands. it is speculated that nutrition, especially with the preservative laden processed foods may contribute to dry eyes too.
Testimonials
Janice Weaver:
“After searching for a cure for dry eyes, I finally found the Hello Treatment at Khanna Vision Institute. It’s been life-changing—no more constant irritation or dependency on eye drops. I can enjoy clear, comfortable vision again!“
It Has Become the First Line of Treatment for Dry Eyes and Styes
When the flow of oil from the meibomian glands becomes obstructed, two significant issues arise. First, tears evaporate much more quickly, resulting in dryness and fluctuations in vision. Second, the glands can become swollen due to the accumulation of oils, which may solidify and lead to oversaturation. This buildup can trigger inflammation, causing swelling that may result in the formation of a chalazion or stye, akin to the development of a pimple.
The Hello Treatment for dry eyes offers a natural, non-invasive solution that effectively addresses these issues. It is not only a logical choice for treating styes but also preserves the health of the oil glands. Protecting these glands is crucial, as their destruction can exacerbate dry eye symptoms. With the Hello Treatment, patients can experience relief without risking further damage to these vital glands.
HELLO Deep Heat Therapy and Skilled Opening of Pores and Drainage
STEP 1:
infrared scanning of the lids, to see the meibomian glands and assess how many are blocked.
STEP 2:
In a spa like environment, we heat all four leads to 1114°F temperature using an FDA approved device. The device is placed upon your closed eyelids and the treatment is set for warm compression to the eyelids. This painless treatment allows the accumulated oils to soften in consistency. Its similar to melting frozen butter to liquid oil.
Step 3:
Using specialized forceps, Dr Khanna compresses the glands in pulses to open the pores and push out oils which may have been stagnant for many years. It’s like a toothpaste being squeezed out of the tube. The procedure is not painful,
Step 4:
Following the compression, the lid margins are cleaned mechanically with special scrubs to further open the pores to allow natural oils to flow over the eye.

Hello decreases dependence on artificial tears
Following the in-office treatment, we recommend that the patient begins at home therapy using a heat mask, lid scrubs, a gentle massage and special ointment at bedtime. We recommend this at-home treatment be done at least 2-3 times a week, if not daily. 97% of our patients report back with joy, while the few outsides of that react the same way after a second treatment.
Meibomian glands secrete oils called meibum, an important part of tear film. Meibum slows down the evaporation of tears, and keeps the eyes moist and lubricated. Oftentimes, the meibomian glands become clogged, causing dry eye symptoms. This condition is called Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD).
Symptoms of dry eye due to MGD can include:
- A gritty and sandy feeling in the eyes,
- Redness and irritation
- Burning or stinging eyes
- Blurred vision
- Difficulty wearing contact lenses.
