How to Put in Eye Drops or Ointment

  • 3 min read

Putting in eye drops can be a bit tricky, but with a little practice, it becomes easier. Here are some steps to follow when putting in eye drops:

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
  2. Remove the dropper cap or shake the bottle if necessary.
  3. Tilt your head back and look up at the ceiling.
  4. Hold the dropper over your eye, making sure not to touch your eye or eyelashes with the dropper.
  5. Gently pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket.
  6. Squeeze one drop into the pocket, as close to the eye as possible.
  7. Close your eye for a few minutes, to allow the drop to spread evenly over the surface of the eye.
  8. Repeat steps 4-7 if you need to put in more than one drop.
  9. If you are using more than one type of drop, wait at least five minutes between applying each type.
  10. Replace the dropper cap and make sure it is tightly closed.
  11. Wipe away any excess liquid that may have spilled from the eye.

Drops are a recommendation after LASIK and Zeiss SMILE eye operation, so good to learn.
