TECNIS® Multifocal Lens
Serving Los Angeles, California and Surrounding Communities
The Tecnis® Multifocal Lens is an advanced intraocular lens (IOL) that is capable of restoring your full range of vision. Around 90% of patients who have the Tecnis® Multifocal Lens implanted in both eyes do not need glasses for any type of activity. This innovative lens is typically used in cataract surgery patients who have presbyopia – a common age-related eye disorder that makes it difficult to focus on nearby objects.
However, the Tecnis® Multifocal Lens goes far beyond correcting presbyopia; it can give you the ability to clearly focus on objects at any distance and in any lighting.
How Does the Tecnis® Multifocal Lens Work?
The Tecnis® MF IOL is implanted into your eye during Refractive Lens Exchange – a process that usually occurs during cataract surgery, but can also be performed on patients who do not have cataracts. The IOL works similar to a pair of bifocal glasses. When you focus on an object in the distance, the lens will create a clear image for that object. At the same time, a defocused image is created for your near vision, but you will not perceive this.
Meanwhile, when you focus on an object up close, the lens will shift to create a sharply defined image for the near object, de-focusing distance objects without you perceiving it. This unique optic design gives the Tecnis® MF IOL the ability to provide clear vision at all distances without requiring any mechanical movement of the lens.
Candidates for the Tecnis® Multifocal IOL
If you have cataracts and/or presbyopia, you may be a great candidate for the Tecnis® MF IOL. During a complete eye exam, Dr. Khanna will determine whether or not you have any pre-existing conditions that would interfere with the Refractive Lens Exchange process. As long as your eyes are in good health, you should be able to enjoy all of the benefits of this advanced IOL.
The Tecnis® Multifocal Lens is FDA-approved and considered a breakthrough in IOL technology. Over 94% of patients who received the Tecnis® Multifocal Lens stated they would choose it again.
